“At a meeting in Bergen, Norway, to discuss cooperation among their countries, the five heads of government came up with their own version of the [Riyadh orb] photo. …
‘In the lower [photo] are the five Nordic prime ministers, holding a ball with the sustainability goals. We’re hoping they’ll be a roadmap for the future.'” https://www.theguardian.com/world/2017/may/31/nordic-prime-ministers-troll-trumps-viral-orb-photograph
World leaders actually grasping the future? Bless the Nordics.
“15 countries have now told Brussels they will send territorial exclusion requests to the big agricultural multinationals including Monsanto, Dow, Syngenta and Pioneer. … Scotland, Northern Ireland and Wallonia will also be opting out on a regional basis. Wales has more recently opted out, making England the only country in the British Isles to allow GM crop cultivation.” (http://www.theguardian.com/environment/2015/oct/01/half-of-europe-opts-out-of-new-gm-crop-scheme)
Wretched countries must now seek permission from munificent agrochemical companies?

“The European Union is trying to speed up thinking on the issue by demanding that member countries submit by August individual plans on how to deal with [nuclear] waste. … Switzerland has identified two areas, Zurich Northeast and Jurassic East, to be investigated as possible sites.” (http://uk.reuters.com/article/2015/06/19/us-nuclear-waste-idUKKBN0OZ1A020150619)

“‘Clarity on legal aspects and signs of convergence on contentious issues like differentiation need to materialise as early as possible in order to ensure success in Paris.’ This is precisely what the Bonn [UN climate] talks have now failed to achieve.” (http://www.theecologist.org/News/news_round_up/2904843/germany_takes_the_heat_as_climate_talks_close_with_no_progress.html)
Legal clarity and convergent differentiation are just two oxymorons unlikely to materialise in this planetary emergency.
European Commission sources say that a EU paper on hormone-mimicking, endocrine-disrupting chemicals (EDCs) was buried by top EU officials under pressure from big chemical firms which use EDCs in toiletries, plastics and cosmetics.
“Scientific evidence … suggests that endocrine-disrupting effects, such as lowered sperm counts, genital malformations, non-descended testes and misplaced penis holes, are increasing.” (http://www.theguardian.com/environment/2015/feb/02/suppressed-eu-report-could-have-banned-pesticides-worth-billions)
The misplaced penis holes running the big chemical companies denied any such toxic behaviour.
“Belgium, Denmark, Greece, Spain, France, Ireland, the Netherlands, Poland, Portugal and United Kingdom will all be penalized for exceeding their fishing quotas last year. Quota overshoot affects 49 stocks, and deductions, which total 21286 tonnes, will apply to the same stocks as the present year. In cases where no available quota is left, the deduction will apply to a similar species.” (http://oceana.org/en/eu/media-reports/press-releases/oceana-supports-penalties-for-member-states-that-exceeded-2013-fishing-quotas)
Fishing operatives must convince the similar species to act like the overfished species and avoid being caught.
“The prospect of an ice-free Arctic in the summer has spurred oil and gas exploration and shipping in the north, which threaten fragile ecosystems, and scientists are also beginning to tie the disappearing ice to extreme weather events in Europe.” (http://www.theguardian.com/environment/2013/sep/20/arctic-sea-ice-decline-melting-summer)
The Arctic looks set to become a cheap flight holiday destination.
